I first started training with Buckeye Tang Soo Do in January 1998 under Master Simone Genna, and was fortunate to join the club in its beginning stages. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of watching the club grow in size beyond it’s humble racquetball court into one of the larger clubs on campus. While many things have changed since then, I’ve always been proud of the bonds established between club members that remain strong over the years.
After testing for Cho Dan in the autumn of 2001, I moved into an instructor-in-training role at Buckeye Tang Soo Do. In 2003, I tested for E Dan and continued to assist in teaching classes as well as learning how to teach more efficiently. In the past, I also served as club president, treasurer, demo team captain and did miscellaneous web page work for the club and the Association. Currently, I’m developing and administrating the Region 5 website. In 2005 I began teaching a small club class at the Tuttle Park Recreation Center. In 2007, I earned my 3rd degree black belt (Sam Dan) with the WTSDA.
I am a graduate of The Ohio State University (BA, Psych, 2002) and currently work within the University Medical Center Health Science Library.
In the Spring of 2006, I became the Chief Instructor of Buckeye Tang Soo Do. I am deeply honored to fill this role, and it is my desire to continue the strong traditions we have built together as a club. I hope to help my students find their path and appreciation for the martial way in the same way my instructor did for me.
My personal focus is Hyung, their evolution, application, and future. I especially enjoy working with the more “useless” and “weird” techniques and trying to make them work. I also enjoy working with bong, ssang chul bong and ch’ae.
