Upcoming Belt Testing Information

The summer belt testings will be taking place in the next week. Please see below for information such as directions, times and locations.

Adult Testing

The adult test will take place on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at The Ohio State University in conjunction with Buckeye Tang Soo Do. The test will be held in room B134 of the RPAC.

PLEASE NOTE: The test has been relocated from room A200 to room B134 and this room number is different from the one listed in the testing letters!

Testing begins at 1:00 p.m. and students should arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. to give themselves ample time to walk from the garage to the facilities, change and warm up. The easiest place to park is in the Neil Avenue Parking Garage for $3.00. Here are directions showing how to get to the Neil Ave. Garage from the Y.

Youth Test

The youth test will take place on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at the Licking County Family YMCA Western Branch in the same location that classes take place. The test will begin at 2:00 p.m. and students should arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. in order to change, complete any lingering paperwork and warm up.

Tiny Tiger Tests

The Tiny Tiger belt tests will take place in class on Monday, August 2nd and Wednesday, August 4th. Promotions will take place at the end of the class and at this time each student will receive his/her new belt and a certificate of achievement. Parents/guardians are encouraged to attend and should bring cameras if you wish to take pictures.

Second Summer Session Starts Today!

2010 Western PA Gup Clinic Paperwork Available!!!

Every year the WTSDA schools in the Pittsburg, PA area host a day long gup clinic for any interested WTSDA students. This year the clinic will be held on Saturday, August 28th, and we highly encourage all of our students in the Youth and Adult classes to attend. This is an excellent opportunity to train Tang Soo Do basics, expand your knowledge of martial arts, train with different instructors and masters and make new friends within the Association. The clinic paperwork is available below and must be completed and mailed by August 14th. Students must have their instructor’s signature on the paperwork in order for it to be valid, so make sure you bring it to class to have it signed. Summer Uniform Policy

Due to the rising temperatures, we are asking all of our students to bring a T-shirt with them to class during the summer. Depending on the temperature of the Y, we may allow students to work out in a T-shirt instead of their uniform top. However, students are still expected to arrive to class with a complete uniform as this decision will not be made until class time.

Congratulations to all of the students who tested this past weekend. Everyone did an excellent job! Since all of our adult students participated in the test we will be cancelling the adult class for tonight, May 10th. The Tiny Tiger and Youth classes will still take place. Also, we will be promoting youth and adult students beginning on Wednesday, May 12th, so bring your cameras!

Spring 2010 Gup Test

The Spring Gup Test is right around the corner. It will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, on the Ohio State Campus.

When/Where/Directions

Youth Testing will begin promptly at 1:00 PM. We suggest students arrive no later than 12:30 in order to walk from the garage, change, fill out any lingering paperwork and get used to the training room. By 12:50, we will begin warming up the children for the test.

Adult Testing will begin promptly at 2:30 PM. We suggest students arrive no later than 2:00 in order to walk from the garage, change, fill out any lingering paperwork and get used to the training room.

The testing will take place at The Ohio State University RPAC, room 134. The easiest place to park is in the Neil Avenue Parking Garage for $3.00. Here are directions showing how to get to the Neil Ave. Garage from the Y.

Students from Buckeye Tang Soo Do will be at the different exits, pointing you in the right direction.

What do I need to know?

All students are responsible for knowing the material on their rank sheet. Each section is graded on a percentage basis. Students may be asked to think outside of the box and apply their knowledge in a new and challenging way. Show good spirit and do your best!

What do I need to bring?

All students should bring their uniform and Gup manual. Children will not spar at this exam, but adults should bring their mouthpiece, and any additional protective gear they wish to use.

How Much does it Cost?

The cost for testing is $25.00 (cash or check made out to Columbus Tang Soo Do Academy) and it is due by the day of the test. Please see me if you need to make alternate arrangements.

Last thing…

RELAX! If this is your first testing, just be ready to do your best and show your best spirit. You aren’t expected to know everything or do everything perfectly. All of the graders started just like you, and they remember their first test very well. Make sure you are well hydrated and have a good dinner the night before!

Both the Youth and Tiny Tiger classes have been very popular, so if you are interested in registering your child for either of these programs, please make sure you do it soon before the classes fill up! Spring Gup Testing Date Set

Cub Scout Demo Rescheduled for March 23, 2010

The Columbus Tang Soo Do Academy demonstration and self-defense workshop for Cub Scout Pack 141 has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 23rd at 7PM. We will be doing a brief Tang Soo Do demonstration, followed by a talk on safety and awareness skills. We will be asking for student volunteers to assist with the demo, so if you are interested please let one of the instructors know.

WTSDA World Championship Information!!!

The World Tang Soo Do Association will be hosting its World Championship this summer! This biannual event provides students with the opportunity to train with and compete against other Tang Soo Do practitioners from around the world. This year the Championship will take place on July 16-18, 2010, in Greensboro, North Carolina. If you are interested in participating you can find the paperwork (including registration and hotel information) here. Please note that the first registration deadline is March 31, 2010, and the price for competing will increase with each passing deadline. If you have any questions, please ask Mr. Marker or Ms. Burke. We hope you will join us for this very exciting experience!

Level 1: Facility Open

Level 2: Facility Open-All Classes canceled, Child Watch canceled (all classes include group fitness, cycling, martial arts and gymnastics)

1st Annual Region 22 Championship Paperwork

Beginning on January 1, Columbus Tang Soo Do Academy will be a part of the newly formed Region 22 unit of the World Tang Soo Do Association. We will celebrate this new Region by holding our first Regional Championship tournament on February 27, 2009 in Wingate, Pennsylvania. The paperwork is available online.

All CTSDA students who are registered with the WTSDA will be eligible to participate in this tournament. Please see Mr. Marker or Ms. Burke for information. All applications must be sent in by January 30.

Registration for Fall Session II begins today, October 19^th . Classes will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-7:20 p.m. for youth and 7:30-9:00 p.m. for adults. We look forward to seeing many of our students return and hopefully to have some new faces in the groups!!!

Bring a Buddy Night!

We are inviting all of our students to bring a friend to class with them! If you know someone that might be interested in trying out Tang Soo Do, bring them with you to class on Wednesday, October 21^st.

All guests or their parent/guardian need to fill out the YMCA guest waiver and bring it with them to class. Waivers can be found here, at the front desk of the Y or ask one of the instructors. All non TSD students should wear comfortable workout clothing.

Staff Seminar – 10/17/09

We will be hosting a half-day staff seminar at OSU on 10/17/09. For those students who have practiced staff in the past, this will be an excellent opportunity to practice some of our core material in-depth, and also find new ways to relate our staff training to Tang Soo Do.
